Yukiko Matsubara
Originally from Japan and now based in New York. Yukiko began her ballet training at the age of 10 under Asako Ueno. She earned her B.A. in English Literature from Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo and joined Turning Point Dance Project - she became a staff member, and travelled to New York. Later she moved to New York to join the International Visa Program at Steps on Broadway, where she studied with Emilietta Ettlin and Alexander Filipov. She later became an assistant to Emilietta Ettlin.
Yukiko is an experienced dancer and passionate teacher, offering classes in both English and Japanese. For four years, she served as assistant to director Anne Easterling at The Ballet Club in NYC. She also offers ballet classes, seasonal camps, and intensive programs for the Japanese community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the values of "Trust, Compassion, and Humanity", principles she embraced through The Royal Ballet School Teacher Training. She has also completed the Adaptive Dance Program Teacher Training with Boston Ballet in partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital.
Yukiko’s professional experience includes working with the John Cranko Summer Intensive as both a teacher’s assistant and senior program director, as well as teaching for the International Contemporary Masters Workshops in association with YAGP.
She finds great joy in watching her students grow and thrive, whether they are children, adults, or seniors. Yukiko believes that moving the body to nurture both physical and mental well-being can bring lasting joy and happiness to everyone.
